Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre employs Registered Nurses and Health Education Officers at NSW Health award rates and conditions. We offer flexible work shifts on a casual or part time, basis to public health orientated health professionals willing to be part of our enthusiastic team.
Staff are employed through the War Memorial Hospital, Waverley, a Uniting Care facility of South Eastern Area Health Service. Secondments with recognition of all entitlements from other Area Health Services are also encouraged. People with the relevant experience from overseas are also welcome to apply if eligible for working holiday visa or employer sponsorship. So if you have drug and alcohol, public health, mental health or social welfare qualifications or experience consider applying. Training is available for interested persons committed to harm minimisation.

Current qualifications as a registered nurse (List A) and 2 years post graduate experience. Ability to work in a demanding and changeable environment Understanding of the health and social issues related to injecting drug use Sound knowledge of safe injecting practices Demonstrated computer competence in using computer databases An understanding and commitment to contemporary approaches to drug related issues Ability to work in multidisciplinary team |
Qualifications in Welfare Work or Social Sciences, Psychology, Public Health or equivalent or working towards same Understanding of and commitment to Harm Minimisation and the service delivery model of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre 2 years experience working with injecting drug users Experience in psychosocial and drug use assessment and referral, supportive counselling and crisis management Ability to work in a demanding and changeable environment Understanding of the health, social and legal issues related to injecting drug use Understanding of the legislative and policy framework underpinning MSIC’s operation Ability to work in multidisciplinary team Demonstrated competence in using computer databases |
